7-1 Book Reviews
Spoiler Alert!
― Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
“We're not freaks, Tally. We're normal. We may not be gorgeous, but at least we're not hyped-up Barbie dolls.”
Tally is going to get a surgery to make her pretty on her 16th birthday. She meets a friend named Shay, and she changes her life. Shay does not want to get her surgery done because she believes that they all are beautiful, so Shay runs away to the smoke, the smoke is this hidden place where uglies don't want to get a surgery, so they escape. Tally follows Shay as a spy to the smoke, so she can get her surgery. I give this dystopian book two thumbs up. I thought I wouldn't like dystopian themed books, but come to find out, it was really interesting and fun to read. Uglies kept me on the edge of my seat with excitement!
In some chapters, they left off with cliff hangers. The chapter “Getaway” made me want to keep reading. Cliff hangers are fun because you don't know what’s going to happen next, so you have to read the next chapter. I think the message the book was trying to get across was that everyone is beautiful in their own way, and that you should love yourself the way you are because it would be boring in a world where we all are the same. I liked Shay in the story because she had her own way of thinking and creativity. I could also relate to her when she ran away from the surgery. Although the plot was unbelievable because their transport was to go around on a hover board, and hover cars, it was cool to imagine what their situation would be.
Anyone who likes exciting, mysterious adventure books, would love this one! This is a great book, because its awesome to read, the way the author wrote the book was really descriptive and you could imagine their world in your head.
Happy Reading!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
“May the odds be ever in your favor,” said Effie Trinket after Katniss Everdeen volunteered for her sister, and Peeta Mallark got picked at the reaping for the 74th Hunger Games. I recommend for people to read this book if they are big fans or not even big fans of Dystopian novels. The Hunger Games is all about hope of surviving in the the arena with people that mite want to kill you. This book has a little bit of fake romance between Katniss and Peeta. This book also has a lot of action. I would give this book two thumbs up.
The Hunger Games is my favorite Dystopian novel of all time. One big reason is because of the sacrifice that Katniss made. Katniss’s sister, Prim is twelve years old, and had been chosen to be in the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss volunteered to take her sister’s place. Katniss has no fear of being in the Hunger Games, but her sister Prim does. When Katniss volunteered, it made my heart feel like it was beating a million beats faster then anyone else’s heartbeats, because Prim would not be able to save herself in the Hunger Games, but Katniss can because she can hunt and knows how to survive in the outdoors because she learned from her father who taught her how to survive in the woods and how to use a bow.
Hope is the only thing stronger than fear in the Hunger Games. Fear is not the first choice in the Hunger Games. Hope is always the first choice in the Games. Fear is not a choice because if you are afraid your chances of living are not so good. Peeta had fear of dying, and Katniss had hope of living because she promised her sister to be home when the Hunger Games ended and that meant Katniss winning the 74th Hunger Games. This shows that sisters stand up for each other when in trouble. Prim is very scared that Katniss will die, but she still has hope that Katniss will survive. So Katniss is not only strong for herself, she is strong for Prim, and as it turns out, for Peeta too. The Hunger Games is one of the best Dystopian books of all time to me and it can be the best book of all time to you too.
Divergent by Veronica Roth
“One choice can define you, One choice can transform you, One choice can destroy you.” When Tris takes her aptitude test her world changes. She makes a big mistake by joining dauntless where she can easily be found for what she is. But what is she? Why would they hunt her down? What makes her a target? After I read the first book for our dystopian unit I had to read the rest. I would give Divergent a five star review for its thrilling suspense
Divergent is such a page turner I almost never put it down. All the events were so close together that the book was packed with adventure, and there was always something new starting. The chapters were always cliff hangers like this “ If you do, I swear to God I will kill you,” I say “You coward.” which makes you think “What’s going to happen next?”, “Is she going to kill him?” , or sometimes your in such a hurry to find out that you switch chapters so fast you don’t even realize you have. I was always begging for another chapter. The plot is very believable,it makes you think “ Is this whats going to happen to America?”
I would recommend this book to girls in middle school and people who like other series like Hunger Games, Matched, and The Selection. Divergent is a great book because it is packed with adventure, and really makes you feel like you’re the main character, not the reader.
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
“What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.” David said this to Tally before she chose to be pretty or not. This book is about a girl who has to make a decision to be pretty on her 16th birthday and her friend too. Tally wants Shay to stay but Shay runs away not knowing what to do. Tally runs after her and along the way she encounters problems. I give this dystopian book 4 stars out of 5.
This book is a page-turner because the ending of a chapter always leaves you hanging and makes you thirsty for more, for example,”When I woke up everything was burning around me.” this is a ending of one chapter. Tally is a protagonist and is facing a lot of decisions to go through. Her friend runs away on her and Tally made a promise she wouldn't track her down. I recommend to read this book and the series. This book is packed with romance and action non stop. This book isn't boring because it doesn't stop with action, she is constantly on an adventure ,fighting and struggling to get what she was out for.
I recommend this book to middle school girls because this book is about a girl and not much of a boys likes. One reason this is a good book is because Tally goes on lots of adventures and faces a lot of problems on the way. A second reason is because there is nothing boring about it, it is action packed and full of adventure and suspense so you just want to keep reading and never put it down. I also like it because it has 4 books in the series.
The Maze Runner by James Dashner
“Chuck, what if we’re all criminals? I mean—-what if we’re all murderers or something.” “Huh? Where did that happy thought come from?” The Maze Runner is a book about a boy named Thomas who finds himself in a lift knowing nothing but his name. When the lift reaches its destination, a place called the Glade, he sees that around fifty other boys are all staring at him waiting for him to arrive, for every month a new boy arrives and every week the lift brings up supplies. Everything goes fine until the first girl ever to arrive in the Glade comes with a message that’s bad news. I’d give this book a thumbs up because of the action and mystery of the Glade, made from the fact that even people in the Glade for over two years know next to nothing.
This book is an occasional page turner. And what I mean by that is that, every so often the book can get slow, but when it picks up it really can shift into fourth gear, imagine the difference between picking out a job and running from a giant monster. The story was never hard to concentrate on I found, and it wasn’t that confusing for me. But that was probably because the people in the Glade don’t know enough about their home to be confusing when talking about it. And they don’t try to. This book does have a couple of curveballs to throw your way, like when you think the memory wipe is irreversible, and then you find out about the Changing.
I would recommend this book to people who like mystery novels as the need to discover more is very much present. This story is also possessed by the spirit of adventure and it can be a joy to read when the characters start to zing each other, such as the quote in the first paragraph. But at times, when Thomas asks for answers to his questions, the gladers refuse to give answers and it can get very annoying at times, and their vagueness can be even more so. Despite this, The Maze Runner is a great book and I would highly recommend this book, it’s a great read. 8 out of 10 Stars
Eve by Anna Carey
“Sometimes it seems like all the things I need to know, I don’t. And all the things I do know are completely wrong.”
― Anna Carey, Eve
I give Eve two thumbs up because I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it, when I didn’t particularly like the genre of book. The genre was a dystopian, because of the plague, totalitarian government, environmental degradation and the control. and also a romance book because of Caleb and Eve. I was never really into romance but I really enjoyed how it fit the dystopia, and didn’t overcrowd the book way too much.
I think one of the messages the author was trying to get across in the book is sometimes what you know is the truth, isn’t always the truth. This came along in the text when Eve learns about the School, Leif, The City of Sand, the King, and even many other small things. When it came to the characters and if I could relate to them, I couldn’t relate to Eve but I did start to feel like I knew her and was actually talking to her later in the book. It felt like a real life situation and some of the cliff hangers left me on the edge of my seat, especially at the end when Eve learns about the City of Sand. One more thing I wanted to talk about was how Eve and the characters change through the book, I noticed that Eve felt trust around mostly Caleb and Arden, but almost had no trust around everyone else. Her happiness is almost completely gone by the end of the book, but I can’t say why because it would be a huge spoiler.
Anyone who enjoys romance, dystopia and suspension would love this book. I haven’t read it, but if you like Birthmarked I think you might like Eve, the review made some of the situations sound weirdly similar. I think it’s a great read because of the suspension, the cliff hangers, and the emotion you get in the book. I felt like it was alive, and I really think if you enjoy Eve, you’ll like Once ( The second book in the series) the same. It actually opened my eyes to trying new genres. I totally recommend it.
House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer
“What’s a clone” says Maria? Emilia says “A bad animal.”Everyone thinks Matt is a animal because he is a clone. A clone is a genetic copy of another person. This dystopian book is about a clone boy who was harvested out of a cow and he never knew he was a clone till one day kids found him and changed his life. I would give this book a 2.5 out of 5 stars for the for the page turning excitement.
There were a lot of plot twists I didn't expect to happen. Such as I didn't ever think that El Patron would be bad because the author made him seem like a father figure for Matt and seemed like a great role model, but in reality he wasn't at all like he seemed. I feel that Matt and I relate because he felt alone and didn't know what was wrong with him just like when I started to change and grow up more and thought something was wrong with me.The plot was believable because drugs are a problem today and if we don't take care of ourselves our world could be like that. Also, the clones thing is somewhat believable because our technology advances every day and in the future we could be able to make human clones.
I think people who are interested in books that can get you attached to the characters like “Divergent” and “Hunger Games” will like this book. It will keep you on the edge of your seats between plot twists and cliff hangers. It will keep you thinking. You wont want to put down the book. You will ask yourself questions like: “Will Matt ever be loved”? or “Will it get better for Matt”? I’m not a spoiler, so read the book to find out!
The Bar Code Tattoo by Suzanne Weyn
“What happened, Mom?” Kayla asked. Her mother covered her face and she suddenly shook violently. “The bar code…” she gasped through her tears. “The bar code did this to him.”’
The Bar Code Tattoo is about a world that everyone one when they turn 17, they have to get a barcode tattoo on their wrist. Kayla, the main character, decides not to get one, this story is about what happens to her when she doesn't get a barcode. I give The Bar Code tattoo one thumb-up. The Bar Code Tattoo is a wonderful book if your looking for something with suspense, but it is confusing in some parts.
There were lots of surprises that start at the end of most chapters. The quote I gave at the top of the page is one of those surprises that start at the end of the chapter. This one was at the end of chapter 2, where Kayla was walking home and she sees an ambulance outside her house, and there is someone being pulled out on a stretcher. By now you’re wondering what is happening who is on the stretcher? You want to keep reading to find out.
There were also chapters that ended with cliff-hangers, man, I hate those. I don't like cliff- hangers because if you’re reading and you have a huge cliff-hanger, but you can’t keep reading right then for some reason, it bugs you all day. One chapter that made me feel this way was at the end of chapter 15 it says ‘“Oh, my God!” the nurse cried.’ and for a fact I had to stop right there. This is one of those cliff-hangers that makes you want to keep reading. I felt this way because you want to know why the nurse cried oh my God. The only way to know this is to keep reading!
This book made me love dystopian literature. I love dystopian literature because there is a lot that is different in the world, and there is a lot of action and suspense. In dystopian literature is also good because there is a lot of time spent in making the world, or whats wrong so I just admire the authors for taking time to think of such a great world, well I mean story, the main character doesn't think its a great world.
I think people who like dystopian stories, and also like lots of short cliff-hangers, would like The Bar Code Tattoo. I think this a great read if you’re bored and have nothing to do. I say this because this book is not slow, it goes by fast, some books linger, this one does not. Another thing that is great about this book is it can get complicated at times, but it has a amazing story line, I wouldn't be able to come up with this kind of story!
The Barcode Tattoo by Suzanne Weyn
“Don’t walk away,” she begged as her mother went up. “Tell me! Why do you think the bar code killed him?” This conversation happened when Kayla came home from work and spotted her mother looking at there father’s files. Then her mother shut the computer down and walked upstairs crying. In this book Kayla Reed has to get a barcode tattoo at age eighteen. Though the barcodes are causing problems. The barcode killed her father and her mother. Now Kayla has to make the decision if she will get the barcode and stay or run. I give this dystopian book three stars for the outstanding action and thrilling story.
For me the book was a definite page turner because you never knew what was going to happen next and you would always wanna know. I would keep turning the pages and figure it out. To me the book was easy to concentrate on because of all the action and thrilling plot twist. There were also many times that the chapters would leave off on a cliff hanger. Just like the last chapter in the book left off on a total cliff-hanger. I usually like cliff-hangers, but this one left off on a really bad spot in the book.
I believe that all middle schoolers would enjoy this thrilling, packed full of action book. I think that they would enjoy this book because of the continuous excitement throughout the book. I also believe that this is a good read because of the plot twist and cliff-hangers. Sometimes in the book I would get caught in a chapter thinking why am I reading this book because sometimes it was just a little boring. Over all a very good read.
7-2 Book Reviews
Insurgent by Veronica Roth
SPOILER ALERT!
“Insurgent”, he says. “Noun. A person who acts in opposition to the established authority, who is not necessarily regarded as a belligerent.” The name of this book is Insurgent, it is a thrill and an adventure to read. I would give this book five stars for its ability to hook people in, and end on the worst, but most amazing, cliff hanger possible. In order for you to read and understand this book, you would have to read the first book in this great series, Divergent. The book Insurgent is about a 16-year old girl named Tris, who continues to try to save her loved ones. A war has started and in order for her to stop it, she must either destroy Erudite, or destroy herself. In this breath taking dystopian book you will find out hidden secrets, unbearable lies, and watch the factions crumble to their breaking point. The choices she makes will change her life forever.
Many people might be led to believe that like other series books, it will get boring after awhile. That is not the case here. The book has a lot of action and was easy to understand and concentrate on. I think many people will be able to connect to the main character, Tris. Sometimes Tris can feel overwhelmed, worried, and uncontrollable, like when you’re in a new situation and don’t know what to do. Also, the plot was very believable. In Tris’s world, some people felt the need to be in different groups. There are the kind, the honest, the brave, the smart, and the selfless. These five factions are believable because people in our world do the same things as our friends, who belong to cliques. We are compelled to do what our friends do, and so this book is believable. Insurgent is a page turner. It ended on cliff hangers every chapter, making you want to read more and more of it! One cliff hanger was when Tris promised her friend that she wouldn’t hand herself over to the Erudite. Will she hand herself over? Will she die? Will She break the law?
People who have read books like the The Hunger Games and the Matched series would love this book because there is adventure, a dystopian society, and still a little room for some comedy and romance. This book is a great read, It will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you connect with the characters. It will also bring you in. You will not find better cliff hangers than the ones in this book, will make want to keep reading till the end.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
“May the odds be ever in your favor.”
Each year, because of the war, twelve girls and twelve boys attend a survival game. Twenty four go in, and only one comes out alive! When a girl named Katniss, age sixteen, volunteers for her younger sister, Prim, what will become of her? The boy that got picked is Peeta Mellark. I’ll give this book an awesome 10 stars out of 10. The author made the whole story so clear to me as I was reading. This selection is all about fantasy, dystopia, romance, fiction, and action.
This book was definitely a page-turner, it was like I was reading something real, so real that sometimes I could feel the sadness and pain. On one page some bombs were exploding, on another were wild dogs that can rip your head off! I personally, in some of the scenes, did connect with the character; she has a younger sister and so do I. Some of the hurtful scenes really did bring tears to my eyes. The author made it sound and look like real life. I really liked how the author set the book up, she just explained it so incredibly well! There were a lot of surprises, like when Peeta expresses his love for Katniss. Many chapters ended with cliff hangers, or questions just waiting to be answered, so you have to read on. Questions like what will become of Katniss? Or, if she wins, what would happen to poor Peeta?
I would recommend this book to middle school kids and grown adults. This book isn’t just for girls, boys would like it just as much. If you like romance, dystopia, and action this book would be the perfect fit for you. This wasn’t a boring read, I couldn’t put the book down, it was never “boring,” it always had something big coming next. It was an amazing book, I like books with a little bit of trouble or bad/strange things going on in the story. If I read a book it has to be good, something I like and this book just blew my mind.
If you are in the process of finding a good book to read check out the Hunger Games, by: Suzanne Collins. It’s incredible, so just read it!
Eve by Anna Carey
“He especially loved people, is so happy, especially remembering Eloise” For the book Eve, I would give this romantic dystopian book 4 out of 5 stars because in the book there are some good parts of how she would survive and there are some bad things like when Eve would find out that once when the graduates graduate, they would become breeders to repopulate the City of Sand. Eve and other 18 year old girls graduate from school and Eve finds out that the graduates have to breed and she has to go to the City of Sand to serve the King. So she escapes the school to find a place to survive to hide from the king.
The plot in my opinion was unbelievable because in Eve’s world, a plague has killed a lot of people in New America and the king rules everything about everyone, for example, where they would go and what they would do in New America. I wouldn’t like this because I don’t want a king ruling me or anyone else in that country. In school, Eve got the Medal of Achievement because she worked very hard and she was proven to be one of the brightest students that the school had, this situation connects with me because when I do any schoolwork, I work hard to become successful.
I recommend the book to people who are into adventure and action. These readers would really like it because Eve escapes the school to find a place to live to survive and this leads to adventure and action of people fighting to survive and to stay safe. I would also recommend this book to people who are into romance because in the book Eve meets a boy named Caleb, and they fall in love.
Enders Game by Orson Scott Card
Ender’s Game is a science fiction page turner that is both thrilling and amusing. You never know what Ender will do from page to page. I give this book a thumbs up because the author is always coming up with new ideas that are really exciting. The author really brings characters to life. My favorite quote from the book is one that Ender’s teammates says, “Not enemies, not friends, but brothers-able to live in the same house”. This is my favorite quote because it shows the bond between Ender and the other boys that he trains with. Closer than friends, more like brothers. The book is about a boy named Ender Wiggin. He is one of many to be drafted by choice to become a soldier as part of a platoon that will be sent to space. They must learn to fight aliens because the next invasion is imminent. Ender is special because he naturally has defensive tactics in his brain. This book is about boys and girls that have to fight for there country, not country but world against aliens. Very few are picked to be leaders, Ender is one. I give this book a double thumbs up because of the action and adventure included in the book.
What was really exciting about this book (made it a page turner) is that you never knew what would happen next. For example, one minute they where watching videos, then the next, they were in an army battle with other armies. The thing was, they where broken up into army’s. There were Rat, Salamander, Tiger and Asp. The platoon’s battle with fake guns in zero gravity. I really did enjoy the fantasy (genre) in this book because some things are not really possible but it makes it so you think they are in your mind. The facts that are not real are like aliens and phasers that freeze you stiff. That’s why I like this book. The fantasy is written to make it seem really real if you think about it. All you have to do is imagine it and it will come to life. This story was not hard to concentrate on. There was continuous action that kept me wanting to read more throughout the whole book. For example, Ender had a lot of training sessions in the gravity room that were very exciting. You were wondering from one move to another whether he would come out successful. This book was a really good read. I would recommend this book to readers in middle school and up. This book is good for people that like a good sense of adventure and likes action. I have learned a lot from this book and liked it a lot. This book is action packed with excitement, adventure, Science fiction and drama. This is a good dystopian novel.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
“May the odds be ever in your favor…”
I enjoyed The Hunger Games because it has a very interesting plot and setting to the story. Katniss and the 23 other tributes in this book have no choice but to be fight in the Hunger Games when their name gets chosen in the reaping. The tributes all have the same main focus in the arena, to stay alive. Possibly the oddest things will help them in the arena. I give this dystopian book a 5 star rating because it’s a thrill to read and there’s never a part when there’s no action.
This book is definitely a page-turner because there are many things going on at once with the events. The book never got boring with the intense things going on. There was action in every chapter during the games. I think the beginning and the ending of the games are the most intense, heart-racing parts of the games for the tributes. The understandings on life and people got recognized by this dystopian book because the book hints at showing people how precious life is, and how easily that it can be taken away from many innocent people like Rue, and all of the other tributes over the 74 years of the games.
Whoever loves to read dangerous, fast, and intense books, would love this book and is a definant read for them, so I recommend this book to them. This book was a great read, so are the next two books. Another reason why this book is a great read and a page-turner is that you never know what is about to happen so it makes you want to read more! Overall, I really recommend this book. So…
“Let the 74th Hunger Games begin!”
Insurgent by Veronica Roth
“Like a wild animal, the truth is too powerful to remain caged.” - From the Candor faction manifesto. I give this book 5 stars out of 5, because Insurgent is a book that will keep you pulled in and want to keep on reading. Insurgent is the second book of the Divergent series. Insurgent is book about a girl named Tris, who is fighting to save her life and her friends lives, from the Erudite. Erudite are very smart people and they want to get rid of all of the divergent people. Divergent people think differently from the other people. Insurgent is a book that is an action packed Dystopian story.
Insurgent is a page turner because, you will always want to know what happens next and what will happen to the protagonist. It always keeps you turning the page to find out more. For example, what will happen to the Dauntless and if the factions will come back together or not. A lot of the chapters ended with cliff-hangers, like when Four tells Tris it would be better to be friends with the factionless than enemies, and then you just want to keep on reading to find out what will happen, and if the city will go back to normal. The plot was very believable because it takes place in a town that was destroyed and how the world is separated by factions, like each faction has it own part of the town.
I really think that people who like dystopian literature would like it, and people who like action, adventure and a little bit of romance would love this book! Insurgent is a great read it keeps you wanting to read more, it will keep you on your toes wanting to find out what will happen and if they get out of Erudite safely of not.
Divergent by Veronica Roth
“One Choice
One Choice, decides your friends.
One Choice, defines your beliefs.
One Choice, determines your loyalties - Forever.
ONE CHOICE CAN TRANSFORM YOU”
The main character Beatrice Prior encounters a big problem leaving her with many questions and explanations, Beatrice has one choice, to leave her family faction she has had her whole life or to choose a new lifestyle and leave her family. She will choose to live a new life and have to find new friends and enemies, all while fighting to be number one. I would give Divergent two thumbs-up because I loved how the author made this dystopian book an adventure book and a romance book all at the same time.
This dystopian book is an ultimate page turner, the action in this book is unreal and fills every page. Veronica Roth did a very good job with the detail and mystery in this book, she is now one of my favorite authors. I can relate with Beatrice because we share the same personality, I am rebellious, strong, kind and happy, and Beatrice shows all of those traits throughout the whole book. Divergent was far from boring because it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I think that someone who likes romance would love this book, I also think a person of any age would really enjoy this book because thrilling and intense and calm and loving all at the same time. Plus if you really like Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant are other books in the Divergent series so, don’t forget to read them all.
“Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.”
Eve by Anna Carey
“This was not the future they promised. Everything they said, was a lie.” This very significant quote from the book is how Eve feels after she finds out the truth about her school. She realizes that everything she had learned had been made up. And all her dreams had turned into one big nightmare. I gave this dystopian novel five out of five stars because it’s romantic, adventurous, and a page turner, all things I love in a great book.
This story was a page-turner because Eve is faced with many situations and problems. She never had it easy, and wherever she was she had to watch her back because there was always someone watching her or searching for her. You never knew who might show up, or what might happen. Even though this story seems complicated because it’s so non-stop, it wasn’t as hard to concentrate on it as it seems. The events that happened in the story were evenly spaced out but also smoothed together nicely. And it was pretty easy to concentrate on the things that were going on. Before I read this book I had never read a dystopian book before. And in dystopian worlds, the story, or the thing that has happened, may just be made up. But if you think about it, it could possibly happen one day, or in the future. This book shows lots of dehumanization from the totalitarian government. The totalitarian government, or king in “Eve” forces Eve and her friends to produce children for the City of Sand with certain medicines that make them sick. So maybe the author of this book is trying to tell us that we should beware of things like natural disasters and fierce plagues, like in this book.
I think anyone who likes dystopian books would like “Eve”. This book has lots of adventure in it, but also a little bit of romance when Eve meets her “true love,” so if you don’t like that kind of thing then this is not the book for you. Mostly girls from fifth grade to seniors in high school would enjoy this book. “Eve” is a great read because it is almost never boring and there is always something going on, it’s even mysterious. If you like this book you may also like books two and three, Once and Rise.
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
“In a world, that everyone normal is considered ugly” Is the quote the government has everyone fooled by. Tally Youngblood is a normal girl. She is about to turn sixteen years old. The age you are allowed to get surgery to turn pretty. The only problem is that her best friend Shay wants to leave and run away to a place called the “Smoke”. Before Tally turns pretty Special Circumstances tell her that she has to find Shay (her best friend) and turn her in. Tally is caught between two things, her best friend or to turn pretty. I give this book a seven out of then stars because it has a lot of exciting events that happens and that the government is hiding things that Tally, Shay and the rest of the people can't know. This is a awesome book from this dystopian genre because it has a lot of action and it has just a enough romance that you’ll love.
I can relate to Tally’s best friend Shay because she see’s the world like I do: you don't need to be perfect to live a full and happy life. This book was a page turner because it kept me interested in whatever part I was reading. It also kept me excited for what was going to happen next when Tally made her decision on what she was going to do.
Girls that are in the middle school to high school readers would defiantly enjoy this book.
This is a great read for that age group because it has just enough action and romance to get you through the book. Also It was a cliff hanger at the end of the book so if you enjoyed this book you would have to read the next book in this thrilling dystopian book.
The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch
“I know what a coma is…When will he wake up?” asked the main character, Stephen, who was trying to survive with his dad after the Eleventh Plague hit. While scavenging for food and supplies after the world is devastated from the plague, Stephen’s dad has a terrible accident that leaves him in a coma. I give this dystopian book a thumbs medium, because it was a good book, but some sections did not have much pizazz in it. It was a big surprise to me when Stephen’s dad fell into the raging river, hit his whole body and his head, ending up with broken bones and a huge hole in his head.
Stephen tries to rescue him and a group of people come and he fires at them, he was scared and he was afraid that they would hurt him, and his grandfather said never trust anyone. Even so, the group tries to help him and this is a big conflict for him, which is a big gamble for him, especially in a dystopian world where many are just trying to survive. So does he take their help or does he stay away from them? Does his dad ever wake up from the coma?
These questions are answered through the reading of the book. If a person likes action and adventure, I would recommend this book. If you are looking for a lot of romance, I would not recommend this novel. It was not my favorite book, but it does a good job of showing how a 15-year old boy survives without his grandpa, mom, and dad.
The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch
“We can help you. We have a town.” are the words of marches when he found Steven and his dad that is injured in the dystopian book The Eleventh Plague. I give this book five out of ten. I would give this book this rating because in did not have a lot of action but had some. This book is about when a boy named Steven how his dad get injured in a fall and a group of people find him and his dad and help. Him and his dad get brought to a town where there are other survivors of the a plague that wiped out most of the earth.
This book lacked in drawing me in and wanting me to read more. One of the best parts of this book was when he old a story about when he was young and was attacked by a bear. I could personally connect with Stephen in the book because if I was in the same positions as him I would probably make the same choices. One of the chapters did end in a cliff hanger personally I hate cliff hangers because they are so predictable and most chapters end with and half the time there not that interesting. One of the best parts of this book was that it was not hard to follow it was strait forward and not many things were happening all at once and was really easy to follow the story.
I would recommend this book for any one that likes survival dramas. I would also recommend this book to people how like small love stores. I found this book boring because when I read the book I expected that there was going to be more action.
